WSOC | Lions Take Match 2-0 Against Gaels in LA
10/26/2019 8:05:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Saint Mary's was scored on early and late in their match in an eventual 2-0 loss.
LOS ANGELES — Saint Mary's was unable to pick up their first road WCC win of the season on Saturday as Loyola Marymount shutdown the Gaels' offense in a 2-0 decision.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions jumped to an early lead in the sixth minute as Jackie Fiacco pounced on a rebound and snuck it over a sprawled out Maleah Milner for the goal. Loyola Marymount would also add a late insurance tally with five minutes and change left in the match courtesy of Ali King.
LMU held the shot advantage in the match 14-12 although the Gaels took far more corner kicks, eight to three. Jaylen Crim and Kaytlin Brinkman each took two shots for SMC to lead the charge.
Milner posted six saves in her start in net as LMU had eight total shots on goal. Lions' keeper Sadie Kenny was forced to make five saves in the win.
The Gaels had chances to score in the offensive half but four offsides calls would hamper those opportunities.

THOUGHTS FROM TRAVIS CLARKE
- "Slow start from us today, giving up the early goal hurt us. We were able to fight back into the game and played really well in the second half. We just missed a few really good chances tonight."
- The Gaels return to the pitch next Saturday in Moraga for their Senior Day game against Gonzaga. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
