Saint Mary's moved to 0-2 in conference action following a tough loss to San Diego.
SAN DIEGO — The Gaels will look to right the ship on Saturday in their next match after suffering their second straight conference loss to San Diego on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Mary's was undone by corner kicks in the match as San Diego scored four goals off set pieces from the corner flag. USD took 11 corners in the contest compared to just two for the Gaels.
After a relatively quiet opening 22 minutes, San Diego took the lead in the 23rd minute and added two more before the end of the first half. 11 minutes into the final period, Eden Quiroz scored an "Olimipico" goal from the corner and then USD made it 5-0 less than five minutes later.
Vanessa Gaitan led the Gaels with three shots on offense while Kamryn Farro chipped in two as well. Saint Mary's took 12 total attempts at goal with four coming on frame.
21 different Gaels saw the pitch during the match including senior goalkeeper Sarah Sawatzky who made her fourth appearance of the season. Sawatzky made two saves in one half of play.

- "We gave up too many corner kicks tonight and they scored on them, it's a tough way to lose. WCC games are too competitive to get scored on like that. We will get back to work at training and look to tighten up that part of our game."
