GOLF | Gaels Remain Steady on Day 2 of SMC Invitational

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Saint Mary's had a solid performance on the course on Tuesday in the second round of the Saint Mary's Invitational as they moved up a spot and finished in fifth place out of 16 teams.

THE LEADERBOARD
Saint Mary's completed the day at 1-over with a 285 round score after 18 holes to finish the first two days with an even par score. No. 20 Colorado State has continued to sit atop the leaderboard at 21-under while No. 14 Arizona is in second place at 15-under and No. 6 BYU trails just one stroke behind Arizona at 14-under.

To lead the Gaels, Ethan Farnam and Blake Hathcoat finished off the second round in tied for 14th at 2-under alongside eight other players who also completed the round at t-14th. Farnam recorded two birdies on the back nine while posting five straight pars on holes one through five. Hathcoat tallied three birdies in the round, including two on the back nine and collected an eagle on the ninth.

Evan Peterson was not far behind Farnam and Hathcoat on the day as he posted a 1-over finish to tie for 24th. Peterson recorded two birdies in the front nine followed by an eagle on the 18th hole. Rounding out the field for the SMC lineup was Ash Hakim who finished the round at 1-over and Michael Slesinski who shot 7-over.

The five individuals representing Saint Mary's in the field were led by Dylan VanderVeer who shot even and Jeffrey Inouye-Wong who followed close behind at 3-over. Ronnie Hun finished at 11-over was followed by Kent Kao (6-over) and Ethan Ashbrook (14-over).

Coastal Carolina's Seth Taylor sits atop the medalist leaderboard after a 5-under second round while Colorado State's Parathakorn Suyasriand and Arizona's Brad Reeves are both tied for second at 8-under after 36 holes.

SECOND ROUND HIGHLIGHTS

Peterson and Hathcoat were the lone Gaels to record eagles on the day.
VanderVeer posted pars on every hole in the front nine and seven holes in the back nine.
Hathcoat and Hakim led the team with three birdies a piece.
Saint Mary's had the third most pars on the day with 114.
