Kesaris and Kozyreva Advance at ITA Fall Championships

NEWPORT, Calif. — Damon Kesaris and Mariia Kozyreva represented Saint Mary's in the ITA Fall National Championships on Thursday and both advanced to the Round of 16 that will take place on Friday.
Kesaris competed in the Round of 64 on Wednesday against USC's Mor Bulis and played a tough three sets. Kesaris dropped the first set to Bulis 6-4 but bounced back in the second and third sets to secure the win 6-4, 6-3, respectively. The senior then went on to the Round of 32 where he faced off against Stanford's Sangeet Sridhar and recorded a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Sridhar.
After falling in three sets in the first round of action, No. 68 Kozyreva made a strong comeback in the consolation singles round as she faced off against Giulia Pairone from Michigan. Kozyreva dropped the first set 6-2 but put up a fight and won 6-4, 7-5 in the second and third sets.
Kesaris will take on No. 24 Giovanni Oradini from Mississippi State on Friday at 9 a.m. and Kozyreva will look to compete against Auburn's Selin Ovunc on Friday at 11 a.m.
