NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Saint Mary's two representatives continued to shine at the ITA Fall National Championships on Friday as Damon Kesaris and No. 68 Mariia Kozyreva each won two matches to advance to the semifinals in their respective brackets. Kesaris
Kesaris moved to 4-0 in the tournament and is now among the event's top four competitors. In the round of 16, the senior defeated Mississippi State's No. 24 Giovanni Oradini in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2 and then advanced through the quarterfinals after Texas' Christian Sigsgaard was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Kesaris' dominant run marks the first time in Saint Mary's history that a Gael has made the semifinals of the tournament.
Kozyreva earned two straight set wins over SEC opponents in the consolation bracket to also make the semifinals. The Gaels' junior grinded out a 6-3, 7-5 decision against Auburn's Selin Ovunc and then easily took a 6-3, 6-0 match over No. 114 Taylor Bridges from LSU.
Tomorrow, Kesaris will square off with No. 43 Richard Ciamarra of Notre Dame while Kozyreva faces off with UPenn's No. 63 Iullia Bryzgalov.
