WSOC | Gaels Wrap Up Season in Malibu

MALIBU, Calif. — Saint Mary's (7-11-1, 1-7-1 WCC) put up a hard fight against Pepperdine on Saturday but were ultimately overcome by the Waves as they fell 4-0 to close out their 2019 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Mary's had a strong defensive performance throughout the first half of the contest despite an early goal from Pepperdine in the 27th minute. The Gaels only gave up five shots while also recording five of their own, with two coming from freshman Kamryn Farro.
Pepperdine improved their lead within the first two minutes of the second half off a goal from Joelle Anderson. In the 47th minute, the Waves would then record three additional goals within three minutes of each other courtesy of Isabel Nelson, Devyn Gilfoy and Leyla McFarland, respectively.
SMC added six shots in the second half while collecting one corner kick. The Gaels' offense was led by Farro as she tallied three shots, with one coming on frame. Kaytlin Brinkman and Jaylen Crim each recorded two shots a piece while Jordyn Cunningham posted one.
Goalkeeper Sarah Sawatzky played in 30 minutes of action during the contest while Maleah Milner played in the remaining 60. Milner collected six saves while in the net with three saves coming in each half.
