MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Women's Basketball will head for warmer weather this weekend when they travel to Orlando, Florida for the UCF Holiday Tournament. The Gaels will take on UCF and St. Bonaventure over the course of the two-day tournament.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels were nearly able to sneak away from Kansas with a win, but the Jayhawks were able to outlast Saint Mary's with an 86-81 final. The game was a complete back-and-forth affair that saw each team pull out to ten-point leads until it tightened up in the final minutes. Saint Mary's wound up shooting 55% from the floor as a team, the second-best mark the team has had in a game this season. Turnover margin was a story in this game, with the Gaels turning it over 19 times versus just six for the Jayhawks.Â

CODDING KEEPS COLLECTING
Emily Codding was the leading scorer and rebounder for Saint Mary's in the Sunday defeat with 27 points and 12 rebounds, both representing career-bests. The double-double is her second-straight and her fourth of the season. She shot 12-16 from the floor and also stuffed the stat sheet with three assists, three blocks, and one steal. The numbers were good enough for Codding to earn Co-Player of the Week honors from the West Coast Conference, the first such award for a Gaels player this season. For the year, Codding ranks tied for fourth in scoring per game with 15.6 points per game, fifth with 8.2 rebounds per game, and sixth in field goal percentage at 54.8%

UCF
The beginning to the 2019-20 season for UCF has mirrored that of the Gaels, at least in terms of the record. UCF is unbeaten at home with a mark of 4-0, with home wins over Pitt, Delaware, Stetson, and Quinnipiac. It's been a lower-scoring start for the Knights this season, averaging just 58 points per game across their first eight contests. UCF is only shooting at 38.4% from the field, with no one on the roster shooting above 45% (among qualifiers).Â
Â
ST. BONAVENTURE
The Bonnies only have two wins in their first ten games, picking up non-conference wins over Niagara and Oakland. The lineup has thus far been carried by Asianae Johnson and Dajah Logan, with both averaging north of 10 points per game. They present a good challenge for the Gaels in their ability to limit teams from shooting from beyond the arc, where opponents are hitting just 31.6% on the season.
