MTEN | Gaels Begin WCC Play at San Diego

Saint Mary's will play their first West Coast Conference match on Sunday as they travel down south to face off against the Toreros.
MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's men's tennis (1-5) will travel down south for their first West Coast Conference match of the season against the San Diego Toreros on Sunday at 12 p.m.
ABOUT THE GAELS
In their last matchup against Nevada last weekend, the Gaels collected two points in singles action, but ultimately fell 5-2 to the Wolf Pack. James Watt and Damon Kesaris led Saint Mary's on singles courts as they were the lone Gaels to pick up victories. Watt cruised to an easy win over his opposition with a final score of 6-3, 6-4. In the No. 1 singles spot, Kesaris played a hard-fought match and came out victorious in a 7-6, 6-4 decision. Kesaris currently leads the team as he holds a 3-2 overall record in the singles No. 1 seed.
ABOUT THE TOREROS
San Diego (6-3) is coming off a tough loss as they faced off against Arizona State last weekend, but were unable to overcome the Sun Devils in the 4-3 decision. During the contest, the Toreros picked up three victories in singles play as they won the first two singles matches of the day. Sophomore August Holmgren defeated his opposition in the No. 1 spot with a 7-5, 6-3 win and David Norfeldt followed shortly behind Holmgren with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Arizona State. Joel Gamerov collected the third and final point for the Toreros as he faced off against No. 97 Justin Roberts and won, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
