MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's heads to Provo and San Diego for the team's penultimate road trip of the season.

SCOUTING REPORT

The Gaels are looking to bounce back after falling to No. 15 Gonzaga on November 2 when their 5-game winning streak was snapped. SMC has won seven of their last nine contests and seven of eight before falling to the Zags.

Saint Mary's is ranked 53rd in the RPI poll which is third in the West Coast Conference behind BYU (31) and Gonzaga (12). A win against the Cougars on Thursday would give SMC a boost in their push for the NCAA Tournament in the regular season's final seven games.

Last week, senior Megan McKay was a perfect 11-for-11 against Portland on January 31, tying the WCC/NCAA record for field goal percentage in a game. After going 5-for-5 against LMU in the previous contest, she made 16-consecutive field goal attempts.

The Gaels currently have some of the best shooting in the nation as they are ranked seventh in field goal percentage (48.5), and 10th in 3-point shooting (38.6). Both figures are ranked first in the WCC. There are also four SMC players in the top-10 in field goal percentage in the conference: McKay (No. 1 – 59.6), freshman Sam Simons (No. 3 – 54.5), and senior Sydney Raggio and sophomore Emily Codding (both tied for 8th – 48.6).

Saint Mary's 113 points against Portland on January 31 set a record for the most points scored in a WCC women's basketball game and were the most points in program-history against a Division I opponent.

BRIGHAM YOUNG

The Cougars fell out of the top-25 national poll this week after dropping games to both Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount. Their ranking the week before came after upsetting 13th-ranked Gonzaga 70-68 to remain unbeaten in conference-play. Their win-streak continued and reached as high as 11 games before last week's 0-2 road trip. The trip concluded with their most recent game: a 14-point, 79-65 loss at Pepperdine.

BYU has three players averaging over 10 points per game, including Shaylee Gonzales whose 16.2 points are the third most in the WCC. Meanwhile, Sara Hamson is the active blocks per game leader in the nation with a 3.37 average in her career.

The last time the Gaels and Cougars met was on January 12 when SMC fell by one point in the final seconds (74-73).

SAN DIEGO

The Toreros are currently 8-14 overall and 1-10 in the conference. USD's lone conference victory came against Santa Clara in a 57-68 victory over the Broncos. The win came in their second WCC matchup of the year. Since then, San Diego has been on a 9-game losing streak.

Both Patricia Brossmann and Madison Pollock are averaging over 11 points per game with 11.5 and 11.2 respectively. Both also rank first and second on the team in rebounds as Brossmann averages 7.5 and Pollock averages 5.8.

Saint Mary's last faced off with USD on January 10 and defeated the Toreros by the score of 74-60.
