Saint Mary's sits at fourth place after two strong rounds of action at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic while Blake Hathcoat leads the team at tied for fifth.
CHULA VISTA, Calif. — After completing the first two rounds of the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic, No. 49 Saint Mary's sits at fourth place with two Gaels in the top-10.
THE LEADERBOARD
Blake Hathcoat led the Gaels on the first day of the San Diego Classic after a solid first two rounds. After playing 30-plus holes, Hathcoat is tied for fifth in the field of 92 as he shot 71 for each round with a 2-under finish. The junior collected eight total birdies with four in each round and shot four straight pars in the back nine of the second round.
Ethan Ashbrook also scored a top-10 finish on the day after he finished even and secured a tied for tenth placement to complete the first two rounds. The freshman led the team in the first round after shooting a 68, which is just one stroke back of tying his career best.
Michael Slesinski finished his opening rounds in the top-15 at tied for 14th with a 1-over finish. Slesinski collected seven total birdies throughout both rounds and recorded a 1-under finish in the second round.
As they head into the final round, Saint Mary's just trails No. 34 North Carolina, No. 8 Texas, and No. 5 Arizona State. Pierceson Coody from Texas leads the individual leaderboard as he concluded the first day 8-under. Arizona State's Mason Anderson and Chun An Yu follow right behind at 6-under and 4-under, respectively.
