MTEN | Gaels Head South for Two WCC Matches

Saint Mary's will travel down south to face off against Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine.
MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (3-11) will travel down south this weekend for a pair of West Coast Conference matches against Loyola Marymount on Friday and Pepperdine On Saturday.
ABOUT SAINT MARY'S
The Gaels picked up their first conference win last week as they defeated San Francisco in a 4-3 decision. During the matchup, Damon Kesaris and James Watt claimed the first doubles point for a 7-5 win. After dropping the second contest, Daniel Krutik and David Abfalter collected a 7-6 victory to break the tiebreaker.
After the Dons recorded three wins in singles play, Watt, Abfalter, and Krutik each defeated their opposition to clinch the victory. The win for Krutik was his first conference win and fourth overall of the season.
ABOUT LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
The Lions hold a 3-10 overall record and are 1-0 in WCC action after picking up a 4-3 win over Pepperdine. In their last contest, LMU fell 7-0 to UCLA after facing multiple ranked opponents. Senior Lukas Moenter currently owns a 3-6 record as the top singles seed for the Lions while Nick Borchenko leads the team with a 3-3 record in the No. 2 spot. On doubles courts, Moenter and his partner Thien Nguyen lead the Lions as the top doubles duo with a 6-1 overall record and are a perfect 4-0 as the No. 2 seed.
ABOUT PEPPERDINE
The Waves are 6-8 this spring with a 0-1 WCC record as they lost their first conference match to Loyola Marymount last week. Following the loss, Pepperdine collected a 4-0 win over Washington to improve their record at home to 5-4. In the contest, the Waves swept the Huskies in all singles matches while only dropping one match on doubles courts. As the No. 2 seed, freshman Enrique Luque Rico is 9-4 with a 14-6 overall record. In doubles, Rico and Matias Sborowitz hold a 3-3 record in the No. 2 spot.
