MORAGA, Calif. – The Gaels will host their only home competition of the season on Saturday against Santa Clara with a senior day celebration scheduled for after the races.
Last time out, the Gaels' varsity four boat made big strides over their previous race, improving by 17.4 seconds. Meanwhile, SMC's varsity eight boat posted their best race of the day in the opening contest with a time of 6:51.9
SENIOR SEND–OFF
Following the races on Saturday, Saint Mary's will honor their three graduating seniors Emma Bangs, Torie Dawson, and Ruthie Karlberg.
Emma Bangs has been a key piece of the team over her last four years with the Gaels. Bangs has served as coxswain on the first and second varsity eight boats for her entire career with SMC and has always been a vocal leader on the team. The competitive drive she brings to every race has propelled her to her best season yet as she moved up to the first varsity eight boat this year.
Torie Dawson has led by example throughout her four seasons with Saint Mary's and is currently a captain of the team. Dawson is described by her coaches as positive, steady and reliable and has been in the second varsity eight boat the past two season. She has also been in multiple record-breaking boats during her career with the Gaels.
Ruthie Karlberg is another four-year rower and is a co-captain this season. She has been in the second varsity eight boat for the past two years and is enjoying her best season yet while helping the team to a number of strong finishes.
SCHEDULE
The first race will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Briones Reservoir and the senior ceremony will be held around 10:00 a.m.
