Jordan Ford and Malik Fitts were each named All-Conference by the WCC on Tuesday.
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — The West Coast Conference announced their All-Conference awards Tuesday morning with two Gaels being selected for recognition. Junior Jordan Ford was named to the First Team while redshirt sophomore Malik Fitts grabbed Second Team honors.
Ford tied BYU's Yoeli Childs exactly with 665 points scored, 21.5 per game, for a share of the WCC's scoring title. This marks the second consecutive season a Gael has led the conference in scoring after Jock Landale did so last year for SMC. Ford also led the WCC in 3-point shooting by making 43.2 percent of his attempts and was among the leagues' top-15 in field goal percentage, assists, free throw percentage, steals, 3-pointers made, and minutes played.
The Folsom, Calif. native scored a career-high 35 points in the team's second game of the year against Utah Valley and ended up tallying 20 or more points on 19 separate occasions during the regular season.
Fitts was selected to the Second Team in his successful first season with the Gaels. After sitting out last season due to transfer regulations, Fitts immediately became an impact player in Saint Mary's rotation. The redshirt sophomore averaged 15.4 points and started the last 30 games for the Gaels. While the forward was a physical presence in the paint, he could also spot up from the outside and shot over 38 percent from beyond the arc.
Saint Mary's begins it's quest for another WCC Tournament Championship this Monday at 8:30 p.m. The Gaels will face the winner of the BYU versus Santa Clara/San Diego/Portland game from two days prior.
