MORAGA, Calif. – The Gaels kicked off their four-match weekend on Friday afternoon with a pair of sweeps against Feather River College and Utah.  

The Gaels began Friday with a sweep of Feather River College in which Alexsa "Crash" Parker and Sienna Young were able to hold their opponents to less than ten points in both sets (21-9, 21-5). The Gaels did not allow the Golden Eagles to win a single set in the first match. In the second match of the day, the Gaels completed another sweep, this time of Utah. Freshmen pair Chandler Cowell and Selbie Christensen dominated on court five and won both sets, by nine points and eight points respectively. Utah was only able to win one set against the red-hot, Gaels.

"Today was so fun," said senior Lindsey Knudsen. "It's such an honor to compete at our brand new home facility, and super sweet to get two sweeps on our first day there!"

"The team played focused and relaxed in both our matches today," said assistant coach Mandy Bible. "Feather River is always a scrappy competitor and we knew Utah would bring some height and athleticism. Our team handled both foes well, adjusting and using their strengths against each opponent. The atmosphere on campus was amazing and it was really a great feeling playing on our home court. It's been a longtime goal of ours to complete the facility, and it really was a special day seeing it all come together. A big thank you goes out to all the people who have supported our program and made our dreams a reality."
