SANTA MONICA, Calif. – On the final day of competition at the WCC Championship, the Gaels recorded a sweep of USF but lost to LMU 4-1.

In the first match on Saturday, SMC recorded their fourth sweep and fifth win against San Francisco. The Gaels defeated the Dons in straight sets as seniors Lindsey Knudsen and Sarah Chase recorded their fourth win of the weekend. Sophomore Morgan Kendrick and freshman Selbie Christensen held their opponents to just 23 points compared to their 42.

Against the Lions Knudsen and Chase were able to pick up their fifth-straight win on court one, but all other matches went to LMU. Juniors Alexsa "Crash" Parker and Sienna Young kept it close with their opponents, losing both sets by just two points and taking the second set to 27 points before a winner was announced. All of the matches were decided in straight sets and the Gaels eventually fell to the Lions to end their championship run.

"Although we would have been happier with a couple more wins, we're extremely proud of the character with which our players represented our volleyball program and our school," said head coach Gary Hodge. "We were extremely close to beating the eventual champions, LMU. At one point our dual against them was tied 1-1 with the remaining three flights all going to a third set. Our players gave it everything they had and came up just short against a team that beat #5 Pepperdine twice in a row. Overall, we could not be more proud of what we accomplished this year, breaking the win-streak record and tying the record for most wins in a season."
