Blake Hathcoat was one of 266 Div. I golfers to earn the prestigious honor for his superb classroom work.
NORMAN, Okla. — Gaels' rising senior Blake Hathcoat was announced as a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar for the 2018-19 by the GCAA on Wednesday. Hathcoat was one of 266 Division I student-athletes to receive the honor and one of 540 total student-athletes among the three NCAA divisions, NAIA, and junior college.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in there last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Wednesday's distinction marks the second academic honor Hathcoat received this season after previously being named to the West Coast Conference's All-Academic team in the spring. Six other WCC student-athletes joined Hathcoat being selected as All-America Scholars including two from BYU, three from Gonzaga, and one from Pacific.
Not only did Hathcoat excel in the classroom but he was the Gaels' top performer this year with a team-best 71.74 stroke average and 21 rounds at par or below. He posted Saint Mary's lowest total at four of the team's 13 tournaments and was named First Team All-WCC as a result of his strong play.
