MORAGA, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced the full women's basketball conference schedule on Wednesday; the Gaels are set to open their WCC slate on the road against San Francisco and Santa Clara on December 28 and 30 respectively.
Saint Mary's will play their first conference games at home on January 2 and 4 against Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount. SMC split their two contests with both schools last season and the Gaels finished the season tied for third with the Waves.
SMC will then head to Spokane to face Gonzaga, the defending, regular-season champions on January 9. The last time the two teams faced off was in the WCC Championship Semifinals in Las Vegas. The Gaels pushed the No. 14-ranked Zags to the limit, but ultimately fell 78-77 in a wild contest which was not decided until the final seconds of double overtime. Saint Mary's will finish their road trip against Portland two days later; the Gaels swept the season series against the Pilots last season which included a 28-point, 113-85 victory on January 31.
Saint Mary's next two home games will come against San Diego and BYU on January 16 and 18. SMC also defeated the Toreros twice in 2018-19, outscoring their adversary 154-109 in total. The Gaels last faced USD on February 9 when they handed them a 31-point loss. The defending tournament champions come to town just two days later and they are coming off a season which culminated with a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. SMC nearly defeated BYU twice last season, coming within one point in Provo and three at home. The Gaels will complete their three-game homestand on January 25 versus Pacific against whom Saint Mary's went 1-1 last season. This included a 75-62 triumph on Senior Day.
The Gaels will begin their second round of the conference schedule on January 30 when they start a two-game road trip to LMU and Pepperdine before returning home. Their penultimate homestand will take place on February 6 and 8 against Portland the Gonzaga respectively. SMC will then embark on their final and longest road trip of the season, facing BYU, USD, and UOP all away from Moraga.
Saint Mary's will close out the regular season at McKeon Pavilion on February 27 and 29, facing the same teams that they began with: Santa Clara and San Francisco.
