MTEN | Kesaris Makes Semifinals at Audi Napa Valley Classic

The Gaels' senior made the semifinals after starting in a field of 32 on the final day of the tournament.

ST. HELENA, Calif. — On the third and final day of the Audi Napa Valley Classic, Saint Mary's won three matches in singles play, including two from Damon Kesaris who advanced to the semifinal round of the tournament.

Kesaris began his day with the final group play match and defeated Harvard's Harris Walker in a close three-set affair, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(5). The senior went 3-0 in group play to win the group and advanced to the eight-man tie breaker shootout where he defeated another Crimson player, Alan Yim, 10-3, in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Kesaris matched up with Cal's Yuta Kikuchi and was edged 10-5. Kikuchi would go on to beat Ronan Jachuck of Harvard in the finals, 10-8.

James Watt also played a match to finish up group play and picked up a victory over Cal's Thomas Wright. Watt defeated Wright in two sets although they both went down to the wire, 7-6(3), 7-6(5).
