MTEN | Gaels Open Season with 6-1 Win Over Hornets

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (1-0) claimed their first win of the spring in their season opener as they ran past Sacramento State (1-2) with a 6-1 final on Sunday.

The Gaels claimed the doubles point with wins from their top two doubles tandems. James Watt and Boris Reckow paired up on Court 1 for a convincing 6-1 win while newcomer Karlo Divkovic and senior Matis Bot earned the second victory in a close 6-4 affair.

Reckow would get SMC rolling in singles action with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 6 slot followed by freshman Felipe Rincon who won 6-2, 6-1 in his first collegiate match. Bot and Divkovic would also claim their second wins of the day in straight sets while Abishek Bastola grabbed the final point with a 6-3, 7-6 decision in the No. 4 spot.

Saint Mary's next scheduled match is on Feb. 3 at home versus Hawaii Pacific. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
