SAN BRUNO, Calif. — For the second time this season, the Women's Basketball squad at Saint Mary's is getting some recognition for an outstanding weekly performance. Just announced by the West Coast Conference, Taycee Wedin has been named the WCC Player of the Week, based on her performance in conference games through January 4.
Wedin was as guaranteed as a sharp-shooter as you could get this past week as the Saint Mary's Gaels begin the WCC season 4-0, the only 4-0 team in the conference through two weeks. Wedin only took 15 shots between the two wins against Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount, but she made 11 of those shots, going 10-13 from three-point range. On just 15 shots, she scored a total of 38 points, shooting 73.3% on the week.
Wedin ranks 5th in the NCAA in three-pointers made per game (3.47), 3rd in three-pointers made (52), and 2nd in the conference in percentage (48.1%, also 8th in the nation).
Wedin joins Emily Codding as the two Gaels on the team to pick up WCC Player of the Week awards during the 2019-20 season, as Codding split the honors on December 16.
In addition to the conference honors, Wedin was also voted as the Saint Mary's Student-Athlete of the week, following up the honors that Codding had when she earned the designation on December 9. This marks the first time Wedin has picked up either award during her career at Saint Mary's.
The Gaels hit the road for the second time in conference play as they travel to Washington and Oregon for a pair of WCC games. First up is No. 17 Gonzaga on Thursday, January 9 with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 pm. The Gaels will then head to Portland on Saturday against the Pilots, with a start time of 2:00 pm.
