Box Score PHOENIX — The Gaels and Ladyjacks went back and forth on Friday night but Stephen F. Austin caught fire in the final quarter to sneak out the win, 69-59.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Finau Tonga had a career-best 16 points in the loss and also grabbed five boards in 23 minutes.
Madeline Holland followed behind with 14 points and
Jade Kirisome was the team's other double-digit scorer with 12.Â
Brianna Simonich had a monster game on the glass with a career-high 15 rebounds and she also dished out four assists.Â
Saint Mary's heated up at the end of the first half and went on a 14-2 run to enter halftime up 29-24. The Gaels forced SFA to shoot just 29 percent from the field and dominated the boards 29-16 in the opening 20.Â
The Ladyjacks came back after being down by nine in the third quarter by making nine of 11 field goals to end the period. After SFA briefly took the lead, Amy West made a free throw in the last seconds of the third to tie the score up 45-45.Â
SFA was 4-for-16 at the free throw line late in the game but made eight of their last 10 to preserve the win.Â
