GOLF | Saint Mary's Wraps Up Fall Season at Rustic Canyon

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's tees off in their final tournament of the fall season tomorrow at the Rustic Collegiate Classic. The two-day tournament takes place at Rustic Canyon Golf Course in Moorpark, Calif.

THE LINEUP
Saint Mary's will roll out a lineup featuring Blake Hathcoat, Ethan Ashbrook, Ethan Farnam, Michael Slesinski, and Evan Peterson tomorrow. Peterson will make his first appearance in the team's lineup this season after a solid t-15th finish at the La Purisima Collegiate Invite last month.
The Gaels will also have three individuals compete in the event: freshmen Zack Missigman, Ryan Hartanto, and Dylan DeProsperis. The tournament will be Hartanto's first ever college event.

THE FIELD
Four other West Coast Conference teams make up the field: Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, San Diego, and BYU. All four schools participated in the Gaels' first tournament of the 2020-21 season at The Club at Pasadera.
THE COURSE
Rustic Canyon was designed by Hanse Golf Design. Built without detailed blueprints or working drawings, Hanse Golf shaped the large contoured, free-form green complexes and sculpted the bunkers from the natural landscape preserving and incorporating into the design the native barrancas. The canyon hills are dotted with sagebrush, cactus, waves of brome and stipa grass highlighted by a few picturesque oaks. Rustic Canyon is an exercise in restraint with flat, wide-open fairways that fade into the native surroundings and bunkers edged with shaggy eyebrows of thick, drooping fescue.
LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's ended the La Purisima College Invite with a strong final round and finished in second place, just four strokes back of San Diego. Hathcoat claimed medalist honors with a combined 7-under score which was six strokes better than the runner-up. It was Hathcoat's first ever outright win and his second career first place result.
