ABOUT THE SPARTANS
San Jose State has yet to play a game this season but is scheduled to face Div. II Fresno Pacific tonight in Santa Cruz. The Spartans have been limited in their ability to play games this season due to cancelations and local regulations concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. SJSU was scheduled to face Pacific and Pepperdine in their non-conference slate but both contests were canceled.
The Spartans went 7-24 last season and 3-15 in Mountain West action. The team did return it's top two scorers from last season however in junior Seneca Knight and senior Richard Washington. The duo combined for 27.4 points in 2019-20 and attempted a total of 352 3-pointers.
SJSU took a high percentage of their shots from beyond the arc last season with 861 attempted trey's compared to just 670 by their opponents. The Spartans made just under 30 percent of their threes and averaged 69.9 points per game.
Friday's meeting will be the 83rd meeting between the two schools with SMC holding the all-time advantage, 44-38. Saint Mary's has never lost to San Jose State during the Randy Bennett era with a perfect 7-0 record across 19 seasons. The teams last met on Dec. 29, 2018 where SMC posted their second largest win of the season, 75-45. Matthias Tass scored seven points in the win and grabbed four rebounds while Dan Fotu had two points and a team-best six boards.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME
