GOLF | Saint Mary's Concludes Play at Southwestern Invitational

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. — Saint Mary's finished the Southwestern Invitational by posting the second lowest team score of the day and wrapped up the tournament in 10th place in the talent-packed field of 12 teams.

LEADERBOARD
Ethan Ashbrook posted the team's lowest score during the tournament at 7-over and finished play tied for 18th on the medalist leaderboard. Ashbrook was 3-over on Wednesday which matched his score from the first round.

Dylan VanderVeer tied for the best final round score of any Gael by shooting 2-over and ended with a 10-over combined score. Freshman Dylan De Prosperis also had a stellar final day with a 2-over total that bested his score from yesterday by four strokes.

Ethan Farnam and Blake Hathcoat each shot 5-over to round out the team's final scores.

San Diego State rallied with a 5-over score during the final round to win the tournament. The Aztecs were 10-over after three rounds and edged out Arizona State who finished three strokes back. David Puig from ASU easily won the medalist title as he finished 10-under and was nine strokes ahead of the runner-up, Joshua McCarthy from Pepperdine.

Of the 66 competitors in the event, only Puig and McCarthy finished under par.

FINAL ROUND HIGHLIGHTS

De Prosperis completed his round by going 2-under on the front 9 with three birdies.
Four Gaels scored birdies on the 493 yard par 5 6th.
VanderVeer was 1-under on the back 9 and shot a combined 1-over on the back 9 during the tourney.
