SPOKANE, Wash. - The Saint Mary's Men's Soccer Team won their final road game of the season 3-1 against the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
The Gaels wasted no time in getting on the board after controlling possession right away. In the 3rd minute
Valentin Kurz gathered a loose ball at the top of the box and drilled a shot with his right foot into the lower left corner of the goal past the diving keeper to make it 1-0 Saint Mary's.
The Zags would answer in the 35th minute after an unfortunate touch led to a handball call when the ball struck
Gael Quintero in the arm. Gonzaga converted on the penalty shot to tie the game at 1-1.
Just six minutes later the Gaels would reclaim the lead. In the 39th minute the Gaels answered after a take away by
Sebastian Schacht, who then passed the ball ahead to
Riley Lynch. The freshman worked a give-and-go with
Andrew Rotter before Lynch buried a left-footed shot over the leaping keeper to make it 2-1 Saint Mary's.
In the second half
Boyd Curry drilled a shot into the upper right corner of the net on a set piece after Kurz drew a foul just outside of the penalty area to make it 3-1 SMC in the 58th minute. The Saint Mary's defense was stingy all night and especially so with the two-goal lead, keeping the Zags off the scoreboard the rest of the way. The win moved the Gaels win to 10-6-1 overall and 3-2-1 in
WCC play.
