MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Matoso has announced the signing of head softball coach Sonja Garnett to a multi-year contract extension through the 2025 season.
Garnett is coming off a solid third year at the helm in 2021, which the team recorded their highest winning percentage since 2017. Six Gaels found themselves on the All-WCC team come the end of the season, the most in program history since the WCC began sponsoring softball in 2014
"Sonja has had a positive impact on the program and student-athlete experience since the first day she stepped on campus," Matoso said. "We are excited to have her leading our program for many years to come and look forward to continued success under her leadership."
In Garnett's third season, SMC won the most home games since 2013 and last season finished fourth in West Coast Conference play for a second straight year.
"I am grateful to Mike Matoso and Kami Gray for continuing to invest and believe in Gaels Softball," Garnett said. "It is an honor to be entrusted with the future of this program, and I am excited to continue to work with our current and future student-athletes, and the dedicated staff in our department."
Garnett was hired as the eighth head coach in program history in the summer of 2018.
