MORAGA, Calif. – Taycee Wedin continues to rack up entries into Saint Mary's Women's Basketball record book as she became the 25th player in program history to score 1,000 points in her career. Wedin is already the record holder for three pointers made in a season (104) and is just 16 three pointers away from tying the all-time record for career threes made at SMC as she currently has 252 made threes in her career. The WCC record for three pointers made in a career is also in range for Wedin, as the conference career record sits at 298.
The Milwaukie, Ore. native is averaging 16.3 points per game this season and has been remarkably consistent during her collegiate career, averaging 12.8 and 12.5 ppg the previous two seasons. She has already made 35 three pointers this season while shooting 40.7% from downtown on the year, and is a career 41.7% three-point shooter which is good for second all time in program history. Wedin has scored over 20 points in four games this season and has made at least two three-point shots in every game.
The senior crossed the 1,000-point mark on a three pointer to break a 41-41 tie in the Gaels last home contest against Fresno State that sparked a 20-5 run in a game Saint Mary's won 81-69. It was another big, go-ahead basket for Wedin, who hit her third game-winning shot of the season last Wednesday on a buzzer beater at Coastal Carolina University.
That buzzer-beater made Sport Center's Top 10 on December 15 as the shot broke a 58-58 tie as time expired to hand Coastal Carolina their first loss of the season. That dramatic game winner and crossing the 1,000-point plateau earned Wedin this week's Bay Alarm Student Athlete of the Week Award as well.
Saint Mary's will honor Wedin's 1,000-point accomplishment before their next home game when they host Loyola Marymount University on January 6 at 6:30 p.m. for their conference home opener.
