Cowell Named Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week

MORAGA, Calif. — On the heels of the best week of her collegiate career, Chandler Cowell of Gaels Volleyball has been named the Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week. This marks the first time in her career that she has won this weekly award from Saint Mary's.
Cowell was stellar for the Gaels as they opened up their spring season with a split of two matches at LMU. In the season opener on Tuesday, Cowell set a career-best with 17 kills in four sets against the Lions, easily eclipsing her previous-best of five. She then recorded a double-double with 14 kills and ten digs in Wednesday's five-set win over LMU, the first time in her career recording at least ten digs.
For the week, Cowell recorded 31 kills and a hitting percentage of 21.1%. She added four total blocks, including her first solo block, and 14 total digs. In the previous week's two matches, she either set or tied career-bests in six different stat categories.
The Gaels are at home this week as they host Pepperdine on both Tuesday and Wednesday, with first serves for both contests scheduled for 2:00 pm. These mark the first home matches of the spring season for Saint Mary's, as three of their first four opponents are scheduled to be played on the road.
