WBB | Croco Named to All-WCC Freshman Team Among Three Gaels Honored

SAN MATEO, Calif. — With the regular season having concluded, the West Coast Conference has announced its annual All-WCC teams. Saint Mary's Women's Basketball is recognized with three members on the various teams, highlighted by Ellie Croco being named to the All-WCC Freshman team. In addition, both Madeline Holland and Taycee Wedin have been named All-WCC Honorable Mention.

Croco's freshman season has been great, in particular with her play in conference play. Her overall points per game sits at 6.3, but the freshman out of Lebanon, Oregon averaged 8.3 points per game during the 18-game conference slate. During those 18 WCC games, Croco shot the ball at a 42.5% clip, with a 37.8% shooting percentage from three-point range. She also brought down 3.6 rebounds per game in conference play and was third on the Gaels in blocks with seven during that span. Her best stretch of the season was a nine-game run from January 9 through February 6, where she averaged 11.1 points per game and shot 45.5% from three-point range.

Holland is featured on the All-WCC team in the honorable mention category after another solid season. The senior out of Burlingame was a leader yet again for this Saint Mary's team, finishing the season second on the team with 11.3 points per game. As usual, Holland did a bit of everything for this Gaels squad, shooting at 46.2% from the field, 38% from beyond the arc, averaged 3.8 rebounds per game, nearly 2.5 assists per game, and nearly 1 steal per game. Holland reached multiple milestones over the course of the season, including becoming the 24th player in program history to reach 1,000 points. She also took over second place in the record book in career assists, and actively stands six away from 400.

Wedin has been lighting up the WCC for three years, and is recognized as Honorable Mention All-WCC for the second time in as many seasons. The Milwaukie, Oregon native continues to knock down three-pointers at a torrid pace, finishing second in the WCC in both three-pointers made (64) and 3FG% (39.3%). On 13 different occasions this season, Wedin hit at least three triples in a game, with ten of those coming in WCC games. Wedin closed out February with a five-game stretch where she averaged 15.4 points per game with four three-pointers made per game. She now has made 212 three-pointers in her career, good for second-best in program history and tied for tenth-best in WCC history.

Among other awards handed out by the conference, Shaylee Gonzales of BYU split the Player of the Year award with Jenn Wirth of Gonzaga. Gaels fans got a first-look at Valerie Higgins as the Defensive Player of the Year last week when SMC took on Pacific. Ioanna Krimili of San Francisco shot her way to the Newcomer of the Year award while Melody Kempton of Gonzaga was named the Sixth Woman of the Year.
