ALBUQUERQUE — Blake Hathcoat skyrocketed up the leaderboard on the second day of action at the NCAA Regionals hosted at UNM Golf Course on Tuesday and is now tied for 10th heading into the final round.
After beginning the tournament with an even par 72 on Monday, Hathcoat whipped up a 4-under score on Tuesday to climb 14 spots on the medalist leaderboard in the 75-man field. His second round score tied for the fifth best performance of the day and was two strokes back of the top result.
Hathcoat opened the round with a birdie on hole 1, a 544 yard par 5. After posting a bogey on the third hole, the senior closed out the front nine with two more birds to bring his total down to 2-under. Hathcoat then scored a three on the 514 yard par 4 10th for his third straight birdie.
The Fresno native would go on to record two more birdies on holes 14 and 15 to finish out the day with a 68. Hathcoat now has 10 total birdies after 36 holes.
Hathcoat will need to end tomorrow's round as the top individual from a non-advancing team in order to make the NCAA Championship. He currently sits behind two other golfers whose teams are outside the cut in Oklahoma's Jonthan Brightwell and New Mexico's Bastien Amat. Both golfers are 8-under through two rounds.
Tomorrow's round for Hathcoat begins at 9:04 a.m. PT on hole 1. He will be paired with Oakland's Thomas Giroux and Prairie View A&M's Lorenzo Elbert Jr. Fans can check the entire list of pairings as well as the full leaderboard by clicking here.
