GOLF | Blake Hathcoat Named First Team All-WCC

SAN MATEO, Calif. — The West Coast Conference announced the results of their men's golf all-conference honors this afternoon and Saint Mary's senior Blake Hathcoat was one of 10 golfers named to the First Team. Junior Ethan Ashbrook was also chosen as an Honorable Mention.
The honor for Hathcoat is the second of his career with his other First Team selection coming in 2019. The Fresno native had a terrific 71.33 stroke average this season which was slightly below par relative to the courses played. In the 33 rounds across 11 tournaments this year, Hathcoat posted par or better scores in 22 of them and finished ahead of 75 percent of his competitors.
The fifth-year senior found himself in the top-10 of the medalist leaderboard on four different occasions this season including a t-1st performance at The Goodwin in Stanford that Gaels' head coach Scott Hardy described as "likely the best individual finish in SMC history". He also took first place during the fall at the La Purisima College Invite in a field of 32.
Ashbrook collected his first All-WCC honor this season thanks in part to some terrific play down the stretch. The junior posted the best result of his career at the West Coast Conference Championship over the weekend by tying for third to lead the Gaels. In the team's previous event, he finished t-7th out of 104 golfers at the PING Cougar Classic to help SMC claim seventh. Ashbrook completed in all 11 tourneys this season and had a 72.67 stroke average.
