MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Men's Soccer heads into Labor Day Weekend 1-1 on the young season and are receiving votes in the NCAA United Soccer Coaches rankings. The Gaels won both the offensive and defensive Player of the Week Awards in the West Coast Conference for week one, with freshman Jack Vestberg taking home the offensive award and fifth-year goalkeeper Nicholas Lapinid garnering the defensive award.

LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels had a 1-0 lead slip away in the final 35 minutes in their match against Cal Poly on Monday, as a two headers for goals off corner kicks powered the Mustangs to a 2-1 victory. The Gaels would net the game's first goal in the 60^th minute when David Brog played a ball ahead to Vestberg leading him into open space where Vestberg chipped a left-footed shot past the Cal Poly keeper.

ABOUT UNLV
The Rebels come into Moraga 2-0 in 2021, with 2-1 victories over Gonzaga and UC San Diego. They are led in scoring by Nicolas Likulia, as the Paris, France native scored a goal in each of their first two games. UNLV is looking for their first winning season since 2017, but the Rebels did finish 10-10-1 in 2018.
 
Defender Billy Jones and midfielder Bailey Letherman were both named WAC Second Team All-Conference in 2020 and highlight the Rebels' top returners. Letherman led UNLV in scoring with three goals and shared the team lead in assists with Jones with three. The Rebels also return 2020 WAC All-Conference honorable mention selections Claudio Gabriel and goalkeeper Miguel Duenas Jr., as well as last year's All-Freshman Team honoree Louis Hiepen.

The Gaels are 3-0 all time against the Rebels, including a 2-0 victory in Las Vegas in 2019 where current senior Sebastian Schacht assisted on the game-winning goal.

ABOUT DIXIE STATE
The Trailblazers are 1-1 in the 2021 campaign after a 1-0 victory over UC San Diego and a 2-0 loss to Cal Baptist. This will be the first match up between Saint Mary's and Dixie State, as the 2020-21 season was the inaugural season for the Trailblazers at the Division I level and in in the Western Athletic Conference, finising the regular season with a 3-6-0 record. Leading goal scorer Idris Alabi, defender Matt Lockwood, and goalkeeper Jakob Moore all return from the Trailblazers 2020-21 spring season.
