BREMERTON, Wash. - The Saint Mary's Golf Team will start the season at the Husky Invitational September 20-21, the same tournament they played in to start the 2019-20 season.
There are two separate tournaments taking place for the opener at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Wash, as there will be a team tournament and an individual one. Teams will play on the Olympic course and individuals will play on the Cascade course. Both are par 72 courses.
Â
"We are anxious to get this new year kicked off in Washington," Coach
Scott Hardy said. "Gold Mountain is a great college golf course and it will provide a nice test for our players."
Â
Sixteen schools will be participating in the Husky Invitational. Saint Mary's will be paired with Boise State, Idaho, and Nevada and play 36 continuous holes on day one. There are five par-four holes, two par-three holes, and two par-fives in the 3,691 yards the teams will cover on day one.
Â
The Gaels team lineup for the invitational are
Dylan VanderVeer,
Mitchell Hoey,
Kristian Bressum,
Michael Slesinski, and
Ethan Farnam. Competing in the individual portion of the tournament are
Jonathan Curran,
Connor Reis, and
Zack Missigman.
Â
"I'm excited to bring a mix of young and experienced talent to compete in a strong, 16-team field," Coach Hardy added. "This tournament will likely provide the challenge of some rain and wind as well, so we need to be prepared for conditions we haven't faced since last January."
Â
The Gaels will have some familiar tournaments on their slate for the 2021-22 season, some trips to new destinations, and the return of the SMC Invitational. Saint Mary's will host the SMC Invitational Tournament November 8-10 in Pebble Beach, Calif. at the Poppy Hills Golf Course. Other tournaments they've participated in before include the Visit Stockton Invitational hosted by the University of the Pacific October 21-23.
Â
February 17-19 the Gaels will travel to Kauai, Hawaii for the John Burns Intercollegiate Tournament, they will play Goodwin Tournament at Stanford March 24-26, and the Ping Cougar Classic at BYU April 22-23 in tournaments they will return to from previous seasons.
Â
They will also participate in the Lake Las Vegas Invitational February 28 to March 2, though the host school will be Coastal Carolina University in Henderson, Nev. Other tournaments that will be a first for the Gaels are the Lewis Chitengwa Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. April 11-12 and the Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State from April 16-17 in State College, Penn.
