LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels defeated the Pepperdine Waves 70-53 last Saturday afternoon. Saint Mary's would tie the game at 28-28 on a layup by Hannah Rapp, take the lead on their next basket as Leia Hanafin hit a jumper in the lane with 1:22 left in the half, and go up by five at the break after a Hanafin three pointer.

From there SMC would never trail again. The Waves shot just 2 of 17 in the second quarter and just 1 for 11 from three-point range after going 4 for 7 from downtown in the 1st quarter, as the Gaels did a great job of contesting shots in the second.

The third quarter was Saint Mary's most balanced frame of the game. Six different Gaels scored and they shot 8 of 11 from the field while keeping Pepperdine to just 3 of 16 shooting to outscore the Waves 20-7 in the third. Saint Mary's led by 18 after the third and would stretch their lead to as large 23 after a Madeline Holland layup in the fourth quarter.

Tayla Dalton led the Gaels in scoring with 17 points and was a perfect 7 for 7 from the field and 1 for 1 from beyond the arc. Holland scored 14 points and was tied for the team lead in rebounds with Makena Mastora as both pulled down seven boards. Ali Bamberger also finished in double figures with 12 points and Hanafin tied her career high in points in a game with 10.

2021-22 YEARBOOK
The 2021-22 Saint Mary's Basketball Yearbook is available HERE. This contains all of your information on both Saint Mary's basketball programs, coach and player profiles, as well as Saint Mary's, administration, and fan information.

ABOUT SAN DIEGO
Graduate students Myah Pace and Jordyn Edwards were named to the 2021-22 All-WCC Women's Basketball Preseason Team and San Diego women's basketball was picked to finish third in the 2021-22 WCC Women's Basketball Preseason Poll.

Offensively the Toreros are fourth in the WCC in field goal percentage and second in three-point percentage, but are last in the conference in free-throw percentage. Defensively they are tops in the conference in steals per game and turnovers forced, and second in the league in three pointers and three-point percentage allowed.

Coach Cindy Fisher is in her 17th season at the helm of the Toreros and has a record of 304-200. The Gaels lead the all-time series between the two programs 51-22. San Diego has won three of the last four meetings between the two, but Saint Mary's has dominated the series over the past eight years, with the Gaels winning 12 of the last 16 games with the Toreros dating back to 2014.

ABOUT GONZAGA
The Zags have received votes in the top 25 polls this season, and still are receiving votes in the USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll. They have won 16 of the last 17 regular-season WCC titles.

This season Gonzaga was voted to finish second in the West Coast Conference in preseason WCC polls and senior Melody Kempton was named to the Preseason All-WCC Team after being named the WCC Sixth Woman of the Year last season.

The Zags have cruised to their 3-0 record in WCC play so far, winning all three games by at least 10 points. They're second in the conference in field goal and free throw percentage, first in three-point percentage, and third in rebounds per game. Defensively they allow the second-lowest field goal percentage in the conference, the third-lowest three-point percentage, and allow the fewest points per game in the WCC.

The Gaels are 28-46 all time against Gonzaga, with their last win over the Zags coming in February of 2020 as the Gaels win 70-60 at home in Moraga.
