BVB | Lindsey Calvin Joins Coaching Staff for 2022

MORAGA, Calif. — One of the best in recent years to play for Saint Mary's Volleyball is returning to her alma mater. Lindsey Calvin '19 is joining the Gaels Beach Volleyball staff in advance of the 2022 season, and brings a wealth of experience to the sand courts for the current crop of Gaels.

"I couldn't be happier to be back at Saint Mary's – this place and program is home for me," Calvin said. "I'm so grateful for the chance to learn and grow in a new role. We have an awesome group of athletes and, as always, I'm proud to be part of this team!"

A standout on both the beach courts and the hardwood of University Credit Union Pavilion, Calvin last played for Saint Mary's in 2019 when she and Lindsey Knudsen went to the quarterfinals of the USA Beach Championships. That season, she went 20-8 en route to First Team All-WCC honors, and she was named First All-Academic in the WCC her final two years. Calvin won at least 11 matches each of her four seasons on the Saint Mary's sand, racking up 55 wins over her four years.

Indoors, Calvin recorded at least 200 kills three times in her career, including a career-best 266 as a senior, which was the second most on that year's team. She was an integral part of Saint Mary's reaching the NCAA Tournament during the 2018 season, their first time reaching the postseason since 2012. Calvin's academic excellence was also recognized indoors, as she was named to the All-Academic team three times (2016-18).

"Lindsey was a standout as a player, not learning the beach game until she arrived at Saint Mary's, then building a skillset that earned her wins against some of the best teams in the nation," associate head coach Gary Hodge spoke about Calvin. "She is the perfect addition to our staff, bringing an empathy for our players that deeply enhances their connection to the coaching staff. Her input and feedback display an insight and thoughtfulness that are far beyond her years as a coach."

The 2022 beach season begins for Saint Mary's on February 25 with the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic, hosted by the University of Hawai'i. The Gaels will have their home opener on Tuesday, March 1 against San Jose State.
