MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Volleyball earned the first academic awards of the season, landing three on the Academic All-District list, announced earlier on Tuesday morning.
Â
Chosen by College Sports Communicators, formerly CoSida, the award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To qualify for the award, student-athletes must maintain a 3.5 GPA, play in 50% of the games, and be athletically and academically a sophomore or older with at least one full year at their current institution.Â
Â
First awarded in 1952, this precedes voting for Academic All-Americans, the award given to the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Â
All three Gaels chosen received the honor for the first times in their careers. The following student-athletes were chosen for their excellence on the court and in the classroom:
Â
Ella Sandt – 3.96 GPA, Business Administration
Trinity Durfee – 3.79 GPA, History of Art
Makenna Joyce – 3.66 GPA, BS Health Science
Â
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in December.
