LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's hosted BYU this past Saturday, defeating them 69-64 amidst an electric home environment inside the University Credit Union Pavillion. Tommy Kuhse came out blazing, with 20 points in the first half, earning himself WCC Player of the Week honors. Logan Johnson closed the game out with 12 second half points, putting the Gaels firmly into second place in the conference, two games ahead of third with just two games to go.

KUHSE KEEPS GOING
The late-season rise of Tommy Kuhse has been special to watch, and he was rewarded for his efforts on Monday morning. Announced by the West Coast Conference, the graduate student guard for SMC has been named the WCC's Player of the Week, making him the fifth Gael of the season to take home the award. Kuhse led the Gaels to a perfect 2-0 week at home as they took down RV San Francisco and BYU. Kuhse played all 40 minutes in both games and was the leading scorer in both games, posting 22 and 25 points. Both represented season-bests for the graduated student, who shot 52.9% on the week from the field and went 5-11 (45.5% from three-point range). Not only was he scoring, but he was distributing, as he recorded 10 assists, including six against USF. He also grabbed nine total rebounds and had six steals. Part of his stellar performance came in the first half against BYU, where he scored 20 points in the first 20 minutes.

ABOUT SAN DIEGO
The Toreros are having a decent year, currently 6th in the WCC Standings. Their 14-13 and 7-7 record seems average, but the talent on the roster is certainly there. The Toreros have good wins in non-conference against Nevada and UC Riverside, with their only bad loss coming to CSUN. Pittsburgh transfer Terrell Brown-Soares is averaging 8.4 and 6.8 on the year for the Toreros, with 2.7 blocks and 4 double doubles to boot. Senior guard Marcellus Earlington is having a solid season as well, leading the team with 13.6 ppg and rebounds well with 6.7 a game. The Toreros are 8-4 on their home court this season, and will be looking to hold onto their sixth seed in the WCC tournament to get a first round bye.

ABOUT GONZAGA
Gonzaga is amidst a typical year for their standards, coming in 23-2 and undefeated in conference play. Potential #1 overall pick Chet Holmgren is having an outstanding freshman season, averaging 14.4 and 9.6, as well as being fourth in the country in blocks per game with 3.4. Senior point guard Andrew Nembhard has been an excellent leader for the Bulldogs this season, averaging 10.9 ppg and dishing out 5.7 apg while running the offense. You can't talk about Gonzaga without mentioning national POY candidate Drew Timme, who is averaging 18.0 ppg and pulling down 6.3 rebounds per game. This dynamic trio surrounded by excellent shooting and multiple five-star freshmen, is the current favorite to win this year's national championship.
