ROW | Gaels Nearly Take One at Creighton Invite
4/2/2022 4:43:00 PM | Women's Rowing
OMAHA, Neb. — Saint Mary's Rowing ventured out to the great state of Nebraska for the Creighton Invite on Saturday. The Gaels raced in a similar format to what they did two weeks ago at the Hornet Invite, with races in the morning and in the afternoon. Much like two weeks back, the Gaels were able to make-up ground in the second set of races and nearly took one away from Drake in the first varsity eight run of the afternoon session.
The first set of races began at 9:00 am local time (7:00 am PT) and the Gaels put up a competitive time of 7:18.6 in the first varsity eight race, while Creighton was extremely fast with a 6:54 flat. That gap was closed in the that same boats afternoon run against Drake, when the Gaels lost by a mere three seconds to the Drake boat. It came down to the last few meters of the race, but the Gaels time of 7:26.8 was impressive for their second run of the day.
The second varsity eight boat posted consistent times that featured very little drop-off: they went 8:02.3 in the morning race against Creighton, and then an 8:05 on the dot against Drake in the afternoon. Their varsity four boat improved from the morning race to the afternoon one, finishing the day with a 9:43.8 in the afternoon heat.
