MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Volleyball is excited to announce the four newest recruits to the Gaels Volleyball family. Hannah Glick, Kate Blackwell, Cameron Martinez, and Jayme Solomon will all be joining SMC beginning in the fall of 2022, with Glick and Blackwell playing both indoor and beach, while Martinez and Solomon will be beach-only players.
Â
Hannah Glick will help defensively for Saint Mary's, as the 5'5" libero/defensive specialist is well-decorated at the high school level. A native of San Juan Capistrano, Glick recorded 831 digs and 49 aces during the 2021 indoor season at Junipero Serra Catholic High School. The Lions capped off Glick's senior season with an appearance in the 2021 CIF-SS Finals, all while Glick was named First Team All-CIF-SS. During the regular season, Glick was named to the All-Tournament team at the San Diego Invitational, which the Lions won. At Chaminade High School in 2019, she was the Defensive Player of the Year on the varsity squad as a sophomore.
Â
Kate Blackwell remains a local product and will join Saint Mary's as a transfer from West Valley College where she spent her freshman season. She recorded 301 digs, 164 assists, and 48 aces for West Valley last year, when the Vikings won the North Coast Conference title in 2021 and finished as the runners up in the CCCAA Championship. She was named Second Team All-Conference in the North Coast from the libero position, building off of her high school success from St. Thomas More in San Jose. Blackwell was the PSAL MVP twice, from 2017-18, and played for two league title teams during those years.
Â
Cameron Martinez will play beach volleyball for Saint Mary's after a successful high school career at Saint Pius X High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and after a strong first collegiate season at MiraCosta College. Another defensive specialist while playing indoors, Martinez racked up 258 digs while also posting 106 kills for the Spartans as a freshman, helping her land PCAC Second Team All-Conference honors in 2021. In high school, Martinez was named All-Metro 4A First Team and All-State in 2019, while earning District 5AAAA First Team honors. She is also a standout in the classroom, taking home two All-District Academic awards in 2018 and 2019.
Â
Jayme Solomon will join Martinez as a beach-only player for Saint Mary's, and she has enjoyed a successful club career to this point. She began on the sand at age 10, and capped off 2021 with a first-place finish at the SCVA SoCal Championships. Solomon had the match-winning block as her club team took second place in Gold to win a bid to Nationals, which takes place later this month. She's been a regular at Junior Nationals, medaling in 2018, and also won gold at the SCVA Summer Soiree during her early playing seasons.
Â
With the regular season over for beach volleyball, Saint Mary's will now prepare for the 2022 West Coast Conference Championship, beginning on April 29 and ending on April 30. The double-elimination tournament will feature every beach team in the WCC, and it is expected that Saint Mary's will enter the tournament as the third seed. Last season, Saint Mary's finished third overall after starting the tournament as the third seed.
