MORAGA, Calif. — In what turned out to be a dominant weekend for the Gaels in their first conference sweep of the year, Saint Mary's took down rival University of San Francisco in a three game set, sparked by a big performance from pitcher
Ryan Taurek on Friday, earning himself the Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week Award.
Taurek has had a solid junior campaign for the Gaels rotation this season, ranking third on the team in innings pitched and strikeouts, as well as being tied for the lead in wins with four.
The Santa Ana, Calif. native turned in of of his best starts of the year on Friday, going a season high 6.1 innings, allowing just one run on four hits, and striking out a career high nine batters.
The final home series for Saint Mary's takes place May 19-20. The Gaels play a single game on Thursday at 3:00 pm, and a doubleheader Friday at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm against CSUN. The Gaels will wrap up West Coast Conference play this coming weekend with a three game set in Portland, Ore.
