VB | Saint Mary’s Announces Angus as Newest Assistant Coach

MORAGA, Calif. — With the regular season around the corner, Saint Mary's Volleyball and head coach Rob Browning announce the addition of Cinthia Angus to the coaching staff as the newest assistant coach. Angus brings a wealth of volleyball experience at various levels, including NCAA DI to the coaching staff.

"Cinthia is a fantastic addition to our SMCVB family," mentioned coach Browning. "She has a lot of good experience as an assistant and as a head coach, is a wonderful person and an outstanding role model for the young women in our program. We are so happy to welcome Cinthia and her family to Saint Mary's."

Angus joins the Saint Mary's Volleyball staff after officially spending two seasons on staff at Loyola University Maryland, as she was hired in March, 2020. After a very abbreviated 2021 spring season where the Greyhounds played just six matches, they shined under her tutelage in the fall of 2021. Loyola went 17-10 during the regular season and 9-7 in the Patriot League, their best conference record since 2013.

During the success of their 2021 season, the Greyhounds landed two on the All-Patriot League teams, including a Libero of the Year award for Abby Hamilton, who took home the award for the fourth-consecutive year. Hamilton, along with Katie Forsythe, were both named Patriot League Scholar-Athletes for their efforts on and off the court.

Prior to her time at Loyola, Angus was an assistant at Barry University in Miami Shores for four seasons, where she helped the Buccaneers to a pair of NCAA DII Tournaments. She was a two-time nominee for the AVCA Assistant Coach of the Year during those tournament runs, and she coaches five All-Americans, and seven All-Conference award winners. Barry University also won four AVCA Team Academic Awards and had a CoSIDA Academic All-American during that stretch.

Previous coaching stops for Angus include a head coaching role at Snow College in Utah during the 2015 season, and stint at East High School as their head volleyball coach.

"I would like to thank Rob and Saint Mary's athletics department for the opportunity to join and build upon the success of the program," Angus said. "The student-athlete experience has always been one of my top priorities to provide as a coach, so I am excited to help our student athletes have the best both in the classroom and on the court. Go Gaels!"

Angus was a starter for the University of Utah during the 2008 and 2009 seasons, where she and the Utes enjoyed a great run that saw them win the Mountain West Conference in 2008 and advance to the NCAA Sweet 16. She spent her first two seasons at Salt Lake Community College, where she landed Second Team All-America honors.

Angus also has beach volleyball experience, as she continued her playing career until 2018, when she was competing on the AVP Next Tour, finishing fifth and ninth in a pair of 2018 beach tournaments.

A native of São Palo, Brazil, Angus earned a degree in recreation and tourism in 2011 from the University of Utah, and then earned a Master's in Management with a focus on international business from Durham University in the United Kingdom.

The 2022 indoor season officially kicks off on Friday, August 26 as the Gaels open the year at the Boise State Invitational, a two-day event that will feature three matches. The home opener for SMC is scheduled for Wednesday, August 31 at 7:00 pm against Sacramento State.
