SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced its 2023 Hall of Honor Inductees, and this year's class includes Louella Tomlinson of Saint Mary's College. The Gaels' all-time leading scorer at 1,840 points was a two-time WCC Defensive Player of the Year in her time at SMC from 2007-11.
Â
She remains the NCAA all-time leader in shot blocks per game at 5.3 and is second all-time in NCAA history in total shots blocked at 663, behind Brittany Griner's 748 blocks in 23 fewer games played.
Â
The Melbourne, Victoria native has the most career shot blocks of any WCC player, the highest shots blocked average per WCC contest at 5.0. She is second in total blocks in WCC play in 30 less conference games than all-time leader Sara Hamson of BYU.
Â
The top-three, single-season blocked-shot totals and four of the top-five seasons in blocks overall by a WCC player belong to Tomlinson. She also holds the top four spots for blocks in a single season at Saint Mary's and broke the NCAA record her freshman year by rejecting 156 shots.
Â
Her 78 blocks in WCC games in 2010 are tied for the fourth-highest, single-season total in West Coast Conference history, despite playing just a 14-game WCC season compared to the current 18-game slate. In fact, she occupies the next four spots on that list, and has the most shot blocks per season in a 14-game WCC schedule.
Â
When her career ended, she was the NCAA leader in triple doubles with seven, which is still tied for third all-time in NCAA history, and is the most of any WCC player.
Â
Tomlinson is the third SMC Women's Basketball player inducted into the WCC Hall of Honor, joining Tracy Morris Sanders who was inducted in 2014, and Anja Suomalainen Bordt who was inducted in 2010.
Â
Tomlinson played 10 years professionally in Australia and Europe before retiring this past June. She now teaches at Alamanda college in Melbourne.
Â
The Hall of Honor induction ceremony will take place at WCC Tournament on Saturday, March 4.
