

TRK | Gaels Gain Experience in First Meet of Season

SEATTLE, Wash. – The first ever indoor Saint Mary's track and field season got underway Saturday in Seattle, Washington as both the men's and women's sides gained valuable experience at the UW Indoor Preview.
SHORT AND SPEEDY
The women's 60m dash got the action underway Saturday morning, as Madison Dwyer and Hailey Vines brought the speed. Dwyer finished 30th in a time of 8.34, as Vines finished in 37th in a time of 8.77.
MILE MOOD
The women's mile followed, as three Gaels featured in heat one. Anna Ranieri finished 6th in the heat in a time of 5:29.81. Her teammate Kaylee Barnes finished right behind in a time of 5:30.14. Callie Buchanan rounded out SMC trio in 9th in a time of 5:30.0. Molly Dreher ran for the Gaels in heat three, finishing 10th in a time of 5:05.82. She finished 30th out of 54.
Coming off a fantastic fall cross country season, Rayna Stanziano got her spring season underway with a 4:51.10 in the 4th heat of the mile, good enough for 18th overall.
In the men's mile, three Gaels hit the track in heat one. Richard McLain led the way, finishing 5th in a time of 4:28.12. Thomas Osborne claimed 8th in a time of 4:30.87, and Luke Bland rounded out the heat in a time of 4:37.39. Heat two included Blaine Reynolds and Curtis Volf, with Reynolds finishing in a time of 4:19.72, and Volf in 4:20.33. Reynolds finished 21st overall, with Volf not far behind in 24th.
FIELD ACTION
Off the track, SMC had an athlete compete in the field events as well. Gavin Voskamp was the lone Gael to compete in the shot put, finishing 7th overall, his longest throw coming in at 12.75m.
MID-DISTANCE ACTION
In the 1000m, Noah Pagaran and Payton Fox raced for the Gaels. Fox led the way in a time of 2:32.62, finishing 14th out of 21. Pagaran came in 18th in a time of 2:34.66.
The 600m was up next, as runners from both the men's and women's squad competed in the discipline.
Four Gaels ran in the women's 600m, with Penelopea Gordon leading the way for Gaels, finishing 7th of 14th in a time of 1:37.08. Jaden DeSouza finished 10th in a time of 1:39.34, with her teammates Maddie Fletcher and Kaitlin Laner finishing in 11th and 12th in times of 1:40.22 and 1:49.26 respectively.
On the men's side, four Gaels featured in the 600m. All four competed in heat one, with freshman Jason Habash leading the pack. Finishing in a time 1:24.67, Habash claimed 6th overall. Eric Martinez claimed 9th in a time of 1:29.15, followed closely by his teammate Sam Andersen who finished 10th in a time of 1:36.82. Sophomore Raphael Lobo competed in the 600m as well, but was unfortunately disqualified.
In the 800m, just two runners competed for Saint Mary's. Kellen Steplight and Jacob Bravo both featured in heat one, and were neck and neck the whole race. Steplight had the slight edge in the end, claiming 12thoverall in a time of 1:59.38. Bravo finished just behind in 13th in a time of 2:00.58.
The 200m was next up for the Gaels, as the women's side featured a handful of sprinters in the event.
Saint Mary's had three runners in a field of 55, with Madison Dwyer leading the way, finishing 21st overall in a time of 26.95. Maddie Fletcher was next for the Gaels, claiming 34th in a time of 27.42. Rounding out the Gaels trio was Hailey Vines, who claimed 45th in a time of 28.77.
The 3000m rounded out the day's action for the Gaels, as a handful of runners competed on women's sides. Dani Rowlinson led the way for SMC, finishing in 48th in a time of 10:13.21. Sofia Cuevas was next across the line for the Saint Mary's, claiming 66th in a time of 10:44.12. Jiana Cortero wasn't far behind in 71st in a time of 11:03.24.
