

MT&F | Spillane Leads with No. 2 All-Time Mark at Mike Fanelli Track Classic

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Saint Mary's men's track and field traveled across the Bay to compete at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic and turned in a strong showing with multiple athletes recording their personal bests performances.
In the 5000 meters, Oisin Spillane paved the way for the Gaels with a sixth-place finish, clocking a personal best time of 14:06.58. The graduate student's performance ranks him second overall in program history. Joel Fischer also recorded a personal best of 15:14.78, while Jacob Schuetze (15:43.03) and Andrew Perez (16:33.97) both competed in the event for the first time in their collegiate careers.
Jason Habash led Saint Mary's in the 1500, placing eighth overall with a personal best time of 3:48.97, moving him to ninth overall in program history. Alan Solari followed him in eleventh place with his best time of 3:49.61. Anthony Erikson (3:52.18) and Connor McGhee (4:15.68) both finished with their personal best times, while freshman Nick Shoemaker crossed the finish line in 4:14.37 in his first 1500m race.
Solari continued his success in the 800-meter, placing 14th overall with a time of 1:52.09. His strong performance ties him for fourth fastest in program history and gives him two of the top ten all-time performances for Saint Mary's.
Freshman Anthony Sharp raced in his first-ever collegiate 3000m steeplechase, recording a time of 9:33.12 and placing 28th overall in a competitive field of 52 runners.
The Gaels will return to action at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa on April 16-18.
