GOLF | Hoey and Reis Finish in Top 15 in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – Saint Mary's continued their climb on day two of the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate, with two Gaels finishing in a tie for 14th among 84 golfers.
Mitchell Hoey and Connor Reis both finished the tournament 5-under par at 211 strokes on the par 72 course. Hoey shot a 69 in round three to follow up his 67 in round two, while Reis stayed steady by matching his 70 from round two after shooting a 71 in the first round.
Ethan Ashbrook also had his best round in the third with a 70, and finished at 218 strokes overall, as Zack Missigman also finished strong when he shot a 71 in round three. Kristian Bressum finished tied for the overall lead in eagles made with two in the tournament.
Reis had the third-best rate of par threes converted by finishing 1-under, and the Gaels as a team were tied for the most par threes made at 7-over par with Arizona, BYU, and Texas A&M. Saint Mary's finished fourth in par fives made just behind host Arizona.
SMC finished ninth overall, climbing two spots each round after finishing the first in 13th place of 15 teams, and climbing two spots to 11th with a handful of holes remaining in round two when play was suspended.
Hoey climbed 27 spots in the standings in round two and 10 more in round three.
UP NEXT
The Gaels will get to take part in the John Burns Intercollegiate hosted by The University of Hawai'i in Kauai, Hawaii from February 16-18.
