SAN DIEGO - Saint Mary's Women's Soccer will be traveling to San Diego to play the Toreros at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18th and will be back home Saturday October 21st to play against the University of the Pacific at 3:00 p.m.

The Gaels have an all-time record of 12-18-1 against San Diego, where SMC handed the Toreros the first between the two teams last season with a 2-2 draw.Â

Pacific is sitting at a 7-7-1 overall record and a 1-3 in Conference this season. The Gaels are 3-0-3 against the Tigers between the years of 2017-2022. In 2021 SMC and Pacific faced each other two times, where both times led to double overtime and resulted with a 0-0 and 1-1 tie. Â

SMC shut out the top offensive team in the country with a 1-0 win over Gonzaga, who is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 poll, and is the top offensive team in the country averaging 3.38 goals per game to lead the nation coming into the match.Â

In the 32nd minute,
Emily Jensen was able to score the game winning goal after
Emmie Ennis weaved through the Zags defenders creating a throw-in for the Gaels deep in the Bulldogs end of the field. Glock received the throw-in from
Emma Barthel where she passed it to
Makena Carr in the midfield. Carr made a long pass perfectly to teammate
Emily Jensen where she headed the ball into the lower right corner of the net past the diving keeper giving the games a 1-0 lead.Â

The Bulldogs began to attack and control possession in SMC territory taking 15 shots in the second half.
Taylor Poland and the Gaels defense stepped up to the challenge keeping the Zags off the board.Â

By the end of the game she racked up her season-high of 10 saves for her third clean sheet of the season and 20th in her career as a Gael. Tuesday morning, Poland was named to the College Soccer News Women's National Team where she is the only SMC women's soccer player to receive this award since September 17, 2012.Â

SAN DIEGO
San Diego has hit a bit of a bump this season, only winning to Seattle 1-0. Lexi Zandonella-Arasa is the Toreros leading scorer with two goals and five points.Â

Prior to the season, San Diego added 12 newcomers with eight as freshmen and four as transfers. Mikayla Abrenica and Kamryn Simpson earned national rankings from TopDrawerScoccer as incoming recruits and led a freshman class with a strong youth soccer pedigree. Sophomore goalkeeper Sophine Kevorkian set the single season saves record for San Diego with 96. The 2022 team leaders Brianna Pearson and Maronne Suzuki played important roles for the Toreros having the most minutes played.Â

PACIFIC
The Tigers won their first Conference game against San Diego with Ryanne Molenaar scoring right outside the penalty arc where it passed Toreros goalkeeper Sophine Kevorkian in the 88th minute.Â

The Tigers leading scorer is Jaida Nyby with a total of seven goals and 16 points, followed by Alexis Pashales with six goals and 14 points. Freshman goalkeeper Libby Davy has started in 12 of 15 games for the Tigers, with an overall of 42 saves, six wins, and one shutout against Fresno State.Â
