WSOC | Plachy Earns Shutout Number Eleven and Fifth WCC Defensive Player of the Week Award

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - For the fifth time this season, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Kate Plachy has been named this week's WCC Defensive Player of the Week after recording her conference leading eleventh shutout of the season. Saint Mary's improved to 6-1-2 in conference play and sit just two points behind Pepperdine, seeking their first WCC title in program history.

Plachy earned another win between the posts for Saint Mary's this past weekend, recording three saves in the Gaels 1-0 victory over Pacific for their program record sixth conference win. Plachy ranks tied for fourth in the WCC with 63 saves, second in save percentage at .863, second in Goals Against Average at 0.63 and leads the conference with eleven shutouts. Her eleven shutouts also rank second most in single-season program history and brings her career total to 17.
Plachy has been the anchor behind the conference's top defense as the Gaels have only allowed ten goals during the 2025 season, outscoring their opponents 23-10 and allowing just three goals over their last seven matches.
