MORAGA, Calif. — Following their 1-0 win over Pacific, Saint Mary's heads into the final week of conference with matchups against both Oregon State and Santa Clara. The victory over the Tigers briefly placed the Gaels atop the West Coast Conference standings before Pepperdine's win over Washington State later that evening, putting the Waves back in first place.

With two games to play, they'll continue to contend for their first West Coast Conference title in program history and a potential trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Historic Win Pushes Gaels Win Streak to Three Games and Keeps Pace with Pepperdine for WCC Title…
Pacific put up a fight against Saint Mary's, keeping the Gaels on their toes throughout the 90 minutes of play, but the Gaels ultimately prevailed with a 1-0 win. Saint Mary's outshot Pacific 25-11 and created multiple goal scoring opportunities before breaking through in the 87th minute. On a quick counterattack, Brooklyn Smith found Sydney Middaugh just inside the 18-yard box, where Middaugh found the back of the net to give the Gaels the game winning goal with just three minutes left in regulation.
The win was a special one for head coach Theresa Romagnolo and Saint Mary's as they broke their program record for conference wins with six and also won their eleventh game overall for most wins in a single-season since 2001. The Gaels saw their name at the top of the conference standings for just a few hours until Pepperdine walked away with a one-goal victory later that evening over Washington State. The two programs remain separated by just two points heading into the final week. A stumble from the Waves could open the door for Saint Mary's as they hold the tiebreaker over Pepperdine after their 1-0 win in Malibu late last month.
Saint Mary's has never won a West Coast Conference regular season title and will have plenty to play for over the final week, including a potential bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001.
Kate Plachy Earns Second WCC Defensive Player of the Week Title…
For the second time this season, goalkeeper Kate Plachy has been named the WCC's Defensive Player of the Week. The shutout over the Tigers awarded Plachy her 11th of the season, ranking her first in the conference and third overall in all of Division I, along with securing her spot at second in single-season shutouts in program history.
Plachy earned another win between the posts for Saint Mary's this past weekend, recording three saves in the Gaels 1-0 victory over Pacific for their program record sixth conference win. Plachy ranks tied for fourth in the WCC with 63 saves, second in save percentage at .863 and second in Goals Against Average at 0.63.
Plachy has been the anchor behind the conference's top defense as the Gaels have only allowed ten goals during the 2025 season, outscoring their opponents 23-10 and allowing just three goals over their last seven matches.
Series History…
Saint Mary's and Oregon State have met just three times over the past 11 years, with the Gaels holding a 1-1-1 record. The last win over the Beavers was back in 2014 when the Gaels came away with a 4-2 victory. In their most recent meeting last season and as WCC foes, Saint Mary's walked away from the match with a 0-0 draw despite outshooting the Beavers 20-5. Middaugh led the attack, tallying five total shots with two on target in that contest.
Historically, Santa Clara has had the upper hand in the meetings between the Broncos and the Gaels, with Saint Mary's last win coming back in 2000. This season the Gaels enter the matchup in strong form, while the Broncos have faced a challenging run, setting the stage for a highly competitive match and a potential breakthrough for Saint Mary's.
ABOUT THE BEAVERS (2-10-5, 1-7-1)
Oregon State currently holds an overall record of 2-10-5 and a conference record of 1-7-1. Now in her second year as head coach, Caroline Kelly continues to guide the Beavers rebuild. Kelly has been on the coaching staff at Oregon State since 2021 and in just her first year as head coach, the Beavers earned a six-game unbeaten streak and had a three-win improvement on the season.
ABOUT THE BRONCOS (7-6-4, 4-2-2)
The Santa Clara Broncos currently hold a four game unbeaten streak, coming away with wins over Oregon State and San Francisco. They hold a conference record of 4-2-2 and an overall record of 7-6-4. Following the match against the Beavers, the Gaels will return home for Senior Day against the Broncos on Saturday, November 8th at 1:00 PM.
