MBB | Ford Debuts for the Kings, Becomes 11th Ever Gael to Play in the NBA

SALT LAKE CITY — Last night, at the 1:16 mark of the fourth quarter in a matchup between the Sacramento Kings and Utah Jazz, Saint Mary's great Jordan Ford stepped onto the floor for his first NBA action. Arguably the most prolific scorer in Saint Mary's Basketball history, Ford's debut will hopefully just be the start of a long and fruitful NBA career.
In his four-year career at Saint Mary's, Ford scored 1929 points, second most in program history. Of course, this number comes attached with an asterisk because Ford's Saint Mary's career came to an abrupt end when the 2019-20 season was halted before postseason play due to the global pandemic. At the time, Ford was only four points away from tying the all-time scoring record, set by Matthew Dellavedova. He was one of only four Gaels to knock down 200+ three pointers in his career and the only ever Gael to score at least 700 points in back-to-back seasons. He was named a first team member of the All-WCC and NABC All-District teams in 2019 and 2020.Â
After going undrafted, Ford signed with the Agua Caliente Clippers, the NBA G-League Affiliate of the Los Angeles Clippers. In his two seasons with the Clippers, Ford played in 46 of 48 contests, averaging 11.1 points per game, 3.4 assists per game and shooting 46.3% from the field and 41.8% from three. In the 2021-22 season, Ford helped the Clippers to a 22-11 record and a trip to the conference finals, their best finish in franchise history.Â
Last year, Ford signed with the Stockton Kings, the G-League Affiliate of his hometown team, the Sacramento Kings. In Stockton, Jordan led the Kings to their best finish in franchise history, going 25-7 to lock up first place in the Western Division. He appeared in all 32 games and averaged nearly 15 points per contest, while shooting a career-best 49.7% from the field and dishing out a career high 4.8 assists per game. This caught the attention of the big club down the road in Sacramento, who signed him to a two-way contract last month.Â
With Ford making his debut last night, he became the 11th ever Gael to play in the NBA, including his former teammates Jock Landale and Malik Fitts. Currently, Jordan is one of three Gaels on an active NBA roster (Landale, Patty Mills) and one of five Gaels coached by Head Coach Randy Bennett to make it to the NBA (Landale, Mills, Fitts, Dellavedova).Â
