WSOC | Gaels Play to a Scoreless Tie on Senior Day

Box Score

MORAGA, Calif. -
The Gaels competed in their last home game of the season against Portland with a scoreless tie, despite controlling possession time and out shooting the Pilots.

The Pilots finished the game putting pressure on the Gaels in the last 25 minutes, but Taylor Poland left it all out on the field making huge saves.

Poland had an early save for the Gaels in the 28th minute, where the Pilots Kayla Adams shot with her left foot from the edge of the six-yard box. Poland came out of the goal and aggressively smothered the ball.

In the 32nd minute, Emily Jensen took a shot from way out at the 35 yard mark causing the Portland goalkeeper Bre Norris to dive to the left side where she was able to make the save.

Late in the second half, Gaels threatened Norris in the 75th minute with a pass from Kyllie Glock to Micaela Romo, where Romo got passed the defender with a fake and took a left footed shot forcing a diving save for the Portland goalkeeper on the right post.

At the 79th minute, the Pilots put late-game pressure on the Gaels. The Portland forward got behind the Gaels defense as they tried an offside trap where it led to a one-on-one situation between the attacker and Poland. Poland came out of the six yard box again aggressively blocking the shot. Immediately after, the Gaels had a turn over which led to another shot for the Pilots, where Poland was able to save with a two handed catch.

Poland had the best save of the game in the 84th minute when she put a finger on the ball forcing it to hit the crossbar. The ball came straight down and Poland was able to keep it from crossing the goal line.
